Wanderlust Grand Tour | Venezia

45°25'52"N 12°20'12"E | Punta della Dogana (Venezia)

On the occasion of the 1600 anniversary of Venice, Wanderlust wants to celebrate a history of legacy, cultural discoveries and desire to Wander through a live performance set in the frame of the Serenissima.

A project in collaboration with Comune Venezia and Vela spa to support the celebration of the city foundation’s anniversary, coordinate by official committee chaired by major Luigi Brugnaro. Indeed Venice has been home for explorers, voyagers and citizens of the world: people that had been fostering the value of sharing and innovating.

From Marco Polo who was the first one to exchange products up to the Middle East, to Antonio Vivaldi whose music was a social collector aiming to bring communities together from a theatre to another (at that time in Venice there were 1 theatre every 350 inhabitants), passing through the patron Peggy Guggenheim that transformed a passion in a way to safeguard Art, feeding the connection between Europe and America.

Venice has always been a melting pot of open creativity and mutual contamination avoiding prejudices and restrictions, for the sake of beauty and conscious knowledge. In order to guide our wanderers toward a more responsible and reflective future, we brought back an object that is part of the story of this maritime republic, the “Carnet de Voyage”, the ideal tool to narrate a story with a very personal point of view: in the 18th century, for the ones approaching the “Grand Tour”, it was crucial to exhibit what they experienced during the travel thanks to a collection of drawings, notes and illustrations.

And we want to encourage you to do the same, even in your daily life, because your perception can inspire future generations of wanderers. As a location, we picked the well-known Punta della Dogana, for which we thank Palazzo Grassi Pinault collection: representing the start or the end of Canal Grande, it has always been the point of arrival or departure of millions and millions of people travelling to Venice. At the top of this place there is a gold rotating statue symbolizing Occasio, the Roman goddess of chance, who was the one entitled to show the wind direction to travellers.

Regarding the music side, the set includes two unreleased tracks that take inspiration from the city, one paying homage to “Rondò Veneziano” called “La Serenissima” and the other one to Vivaldi’s Spring.
