[ Libra Shoes ] Product Design & Product Development
2024
[ About ]

Libra is a footwear research project born from the collaboration between Wanderlust Vision and XL EXTRALIGHT®, a leading company in lightweight compounds and sole engineering. The project represents Wanderlust Vision’s first approach to footwear design, entirely conceived and prototyped by the studio, combining a bespoke upper with a custom sole developed using XL EXTRALIGHT® technology.

[ About ]

The name Libra refers to the dragonfly, an insect that lives in environments where water, air and land are deeply interconnected. Its wings inspired the design of the sole: a three-dimensional surface whose pattern recalls cracked clay soil, a texture that visually reacts to environmental conditions while translating natural structures into functional design. Wanderlust Vision designed the shoe in its entirety, from the form and materials to the graphic identity, packaging and inner shoe pouch, extending the project beyond the product itself. As part of the collaboration, a custom carabiner was also developed, designed to hold the shoes together and reinforce their outdoor-oriented identity. After months of design and prototyping, Libra entered a testing phase, reflecting the shared approach of both Wanderlust Vision and XL EXTRALIGHT®,

who prioritize experimentation over overproduction. The sole was engineered with XL EXTRALIGHT® XGRIP compound, developed to ensure grip and abrasion resistance while maintaining lightness, durability and cushioning, making it suitable for soft outdoor walks and everyday exploration. To test the beta version of the shoe in real conditions, the Wanderlust Vision team embarked on a three-day studio team building in Puglia, experimenting with the shoes across rocky, earthy and coastal terrains. Walking, observing and moving through different landscapes became an integral part of the research process, allowing the team to evaluate performance while building a narrative around the product.

[ About ]

Libra remains an ongoing beta project, produced in Italy in a limited edition of 50 pairs, and stands as a symbol of continuous research and shared values between Wanderlust Vision and XL EXTRALIGHT®. A project rooted in testing, adaptation and curiosity, documented through a visual reportage by Simone Biavati.
